MX-5 GT racer set for Britcar endurance series
Mazda's lean, green racing machine – the MX-5 GT – has been unveiled. This lightweight, power and performance-boosted race-spec MX-5 will take part in the 2011 Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship, taking on heavyweights Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus and BMW. It weighs an incredible 850Kg, has 275bhp and a six-speed sequential gearbox, can get from 0-60mph in three seconds and will do 160mph! Jota Sport were drafted in to spec-up the MX-5 GT for racing, and have managed to shave weight off all aspects of the car, whilst boosting power levels and dynamics – in a 400 hour build, which included fitting a seam-welded roll cage, which is a work of art and makes the car 17 times stronger than the FIA even wanted for it to race! “The MX-5 GT race car will be strong contender against the more powerful race cars in its class,” comments Graeme Fudge, PR Director, Mazda UK. The Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship is contested over nine races from March to November including a race at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. The first race is a three hour endurance race at Silverstone next weekend, Saturday 26 March 2011, starting at 3.00pm. Zoom-zoom!
