Manthey Racing win Nurburgring 24-Hour – Again!
Manthey Racing have won the epic 39th ADAC Zurich Nurburgring 24-Hour – for the fifth time, setting a new distance record in the process, of an incredible 156 laps. Welcome done Olaf, Manthey Racing team and driver Marc Lieb, Lucas Luhr, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas... and of course their incredibly successful green and yellow Porsche 911 GT3 RSR! The Manthey RSR dominated the race, beating the BMW Motorsport BMW M3 GT by almost 4.5 minutes, who had a good dog fight with the Heico Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 and the Audi Sport Team Phoenix Audi R8 LMS, for a great proportion of the race. Unfortunately, the front running Mamerow Mercedes crashed out of the race at the Niki Lauda-Kurve, as did the BMW Z4 GT3 #76 and the #24 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3... leaving a huge crash site, and the yellow flags out for an age until 6am! This caused some major disruption, and the flow of the endurance race, but the 250,000 spectators still had a riot, as usual... enjoying their beer and BBQ's in the forests, watching some of the best endurance race cars and racers blitzing this most awesome track. Roll on 2012!
