Porsche unveil lightweight Cayman R

The Porsche Cayman R is here - making us wonder what the hell is the point of buying a £70-odd-K 911 these days? On sale from February for £51,731, the Cayman R is a lightweight (55 Kg off the S model), 10 bhp more powerful  (330 bhp) version of the already-brilliant mid-engined coupe. 0-60 mph will drop to 5.0s dead for the manual (up 0.2s over the S), or 0.5s quicker with the PDK dual-clutch transmission, to just 4.7s. And the Cayman R will reach a 175 mph V-max now too. Added to the Cayman's already fabulous looks, brilliant build quality and amazing Jekyll and Hyde drive, the R will come with a fixed rear wing, black-framed halogen headlamps, 19-in lightweight rims, C-F seats, ally doors skins (from the 911 Turbo and GT3), 20 mm lower sports suspension and - best of all - a standard limited slip differential. The only thing we hate is the new colour... 'Peridot'... what do you think?
