NEWS: Classic Car Market Remains Upbeat For 2018

The classic car market is set to remain a sound investment again for 2018 – with experts Coys kicking off the New Year with simultaneous auctions in the UK and Holland, expected to gather record crowds and prices.

International Car Auctioneers Coys predict that 2018 will see new participants in the classic car market and that the outlook is optimistic.

Chris Routledge, CEO at the auction house said: “As we enter 2018 and some of the uncertainties of the last 24 months have begun to settle down and seek direction, the historic motor car market has remained stable and resilient due to its global attraction.

“Now more established than ever as a lifestyle choice for investors and collectors worldwide and out-performing virtually all other known investments over the last decade, the outlook for this marketplace is optimistic and established.”

He added: "There is a new maturity in the historic car market which gives it international credibility which can now only move forward.

“From our own perspective at Coys, as we approach the 100th anniversary of serving the historic and specialist car market, we look forward to this new and mature marketplace with its well advised participants.

“Our calendar of International events in 2018 is considerable including our return to Chiswick House in West London, one of our ancestral homes, along with our repeat event, Legende et Passion in Monaco, which is the longest established auction in the Principality, under the same brand.”

Early in 2018, Coys will hold simultaneous auctions on Saturday 13th January at two of Europe's most important shows, Autosport International in Birmingham (UK) and Interclassics in Maastricht (Holland).

At the Autosport Show, held at NEC in Birmingham Coys will hold a specialist Ferrari sale honouring the marque's recent 70th anniversary.

One of the Ferraris on offer is a 1993 Ferrari F40 Michelotto. This original competition car is fitted with its original matching numbers engine and was delivered new to Kroymans BV in Holland. It was raced in period by Patrick Huisman and David Hart on various circuits throughout Europe (estimated £800,000 - £1,000,000).

Other Ferraris going under the hammer include a matching numbers 1983 Ferrari 512BBi (£250,000 - £300,000), a 1975 Ferrari 365 GT4/BB that was delivered new to Colonel Ronnie Hoare, Chairman of Maranello Concessionaires UK (£280,000 - £320,000), a 1981 Ferrari Mondial (£20,000 - £40,000), a 1986 Ferrari Mondial Convertible (£20,000 - £40,000) and a 1991 Ferrari 348 TS (£45,000 - £55,000).

Coys Autosport auction will also feature other iconic marques, including a matching numbers 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Volante (£500,000 - £600,000), one of only 40 right hand drive 2005 Mercedes CLK DTM with 2 owners and only 7,500 miles from new (£190,000 - £230,000) and a 1984 BMW 635 ‘Marlboro’ Group A Touring car with HTP papers and a successful racing history in the Peter Auto Group A Heritage Touring Car Series (£200,000 - £250,000).

On the same day, the auctioneers will be presenting another fine and high-quality auction at Interclassics in the charming medieval university town of Maastricht in Holland.

Maastricht is known for hosting the world’s most famous fine art and antiques fair, and this boutique classic car show has rapidly grown to become a top destination for the European motoring connoisseur.

The auction features a selection of continental sports and touring cars, including a matching numbers 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE with coachwork by Pininfarina (€240,000 - €300,000), a 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster (€75,000 - €95,000) and a 1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 Saloon with the same French owner for 40+ years, offered with an Aston Martin Heritage certificate (€140,000 - €160,000).

Other important collectors' cars include one of only 205 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (€180,000 - €250,000), a 1982 Ferrari 512 BBi with full Classiche Certification and under 7,000kms from new (€200,000 - €220,000) and a 1962 Porsche 356 1600S Cabriolet (€105,000 - €125,000).
