NEWS: N24 Class Win for Subaru WRX STI @ 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour race

The sure-footed, turbocharged race car we'd personally choose to tackle the hardcore N24 in – the new Subaru WRX STi – took a class win at the 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour race, with our plan Tim Schrick one of the lucky four drivers.
Later this week, we hope to bring you a blog from Tim, but meantime, here's what Subaru had to say about their third ever class win, and top 20 placement in the best race on the planet – some 12 laps ahead of the next car in class! Banzai!

Subaru claimed an impressive class win at the famous Nürburgring 24-Hour race over the weekend, setting a blistering pace during one of the world’s toughest motor races. This is the third time that Subaru has claimed a class win at the Nürburgring 24-Hour race, following its victories in the 2011 and 2012 races.
The WRX STI NBR 24H Challenge car, prepared by Subaru Technica International (STI) specifically for the gruelling endurance race, completed 143 laps (approximately 3,629 km) in 24 hours, 12 laps ahead of the second placed car in its class. The WRX STI NBR was entered once more in the SP3T class, for turbocharged engines up to 2,000cc, and completed the race ahead of key rivals from Audi, Ford and SEAT.
The Subaru WRX STI NBR was driven around the infamous ‘Green Hell’ by Tim Schrick from Germany, Hideki Yamauchi from Japan, Dutchman Carlo van Dam and Germany’s Marcel Lasée.
Based on the standard Subaru WRX STI, using a 2.0-litre turbocharged Boxer engine from the Subaru WRX, the WRX STI NBR has been developed with a focus on weight-saving, improved aerodynamics and engine performance upgrades. The NBR race car retains the standard model’s permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, an advanced drivetrain that delivers unrivalled balanced, stability and handling.
Subaru’s legendary reliability also played its part in the Nürburgring 24-Hour, a motor race widely regarded as one of the world’s most demanding, combining the Grand Prix circuit and infamous Nordschleife course. One lap of the race is over 25 km in length, with 170 corners and a 300 metre difference in elevation for car and driver to contend with. In 2015 the gruelling event attracted more than 300 entrants, including many of the most successful European touring cars.
The Subaru WRX STI is on sale in the UK for £28,995 (on-the-road), featuring permanent All-Wheel Drive and a 300PS 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer engine. The car’s blend of high performance, rock-solid reliability and unrivalled stability continues to win friends with motorists in the UK with orders now being taken for Autumn delivery.

Well done Subaru! See a film of the race with the Subaru Team here.
